When Did Your Last Check Your Horse Trailer Floor?
Before loading your horse and hitting the road, include a horse trailer floor check as part of your pre-trip inspection. When the ground crumbles, a horse's leg or legs can come into direct contact with the road. However, Brad Heath of Double D Trailers in North Carolina encourages horse haulers to check their floors before every trip. However, horse trailer hardwood floors can last for years with proper maintenance. "It's always a good idea to remove carpets, hose down the floor and allow the interior to dry completely before replacing carpets," he said. “Horse urine tends to react negatively with metal when exposed for long periods of time,” Heath said. "Eventually the metal will corrode from urine unless the metal is properly maintained and cleaned after each use."Remove the carpets and conduct a thorough investigation. "Rubber is unaffected by horse urine and since no mats are needed, maintenance is minimal compared to aluminum or wood," he said. takeaway message
Whatever type of flooring you have in your horse trailer, you should inspect it regularly and ensure that it is able to safely handle the work of transporting your horses.
