How To Acid Stain A Concrete Floor
To me, doing acid-stained concrete floors in a basement just makes sense. The concrete is already there, so it doesn't take much work to create a beautiful floor. With concrete floors, you don't have to worry about potential water damage to your floor. In the farmhouse, we laid an acid-stained concrete floor in the basement and were very pleased with the result. Step 1: Clean the concreteWhen acid staining concrete floors, it is extremely important to thoroughly clean the concrete before doing anything else. Then in a bucket I mixed soap and water and mopped the entire floor. Since the etching solution will leave a chalky residue if you let it dry, I rinsed and cleaned each section before moving on to the next. Step 3: Apply acid stain
After cleaning and etching all the concrete, it was time to apply the stain. I filled one with clean water and the other with the acid stain. When I got back, I mixed 1 part degreaser neutralizer with 4 parts water in a mop bucket and used it to mop the entire floor. After cleaning the entire floor with the neutralizer, I went over it several times with clean water. Step 5: Seal the Floor
After cleaning the floor one last time, I let it dry for another 24 hours. Once it was nice and dry, I applied a sealer to the concrete.

How To Acid Stain Concrete Floors: Painted Or Sealed
Chemically tinted concrete produces rich, deep, translucent tones unlike paints or coatings which produce a solid, opaque effect. Acid stain and sealedChemical stains (or acid stains) react with the lime content of concrete and produce the color. If the concrete surface is painted or sealed, acid stains cannot penetrate the concrete and react with the lime. Therefore, a painted or sealed concrete surface cannot be acid stained. With the advent of the latest acrylic polymer modified concrete, it is possible to apply a thin layer (1/8 inch thick) of concrete over an existing painted or sealed concrete surface with minimal surface preparation. Please find below the typical steps involved in applying concrete microcoating/overlay and acid staining to a painted or sealed concrete surface. After 24 hours of curing the Skrafino polymer concrete coating, it is ready to accept acid stains (chemical stains). Allow the surface to dry for at least 24 hours, before sealing with one coat of water-based epoxy, Perdure E32 and one coat of water-based polyurethane, Perdure U46.
